Airplane! (1980 film)

The film that rationalized throwing out internal logic of a scene and established characters in favor of puns that would be the hit of every primary school playground. It would be disingenuous to say I didn’t chuckle at a few gags, but the best satire, from Monty Python to Edgar Wright to “Black Dynamite” is measurably more thoughtful than this as well as being more amusing. “Airplane!” aims for volume over quality, which might have made sense in the days when a joke about killing disco was topical but registers now as rather plain. Point subtracted for the suicide jokes.
