Anastasia (1997 film)

“Anastasia” is the unfortunate musical that suffers from being a musical. The songs are fine with a few great numbers, but their frequency slows the film to a crawl too often and feel like wastes of time in light of how engaging the kinetic action sequences are. I have little issue with the historical liberties taken—you’d think zombie Rasputin would clue people in to not take this seriously, but to be fair, kids are stupid. A well-made animated film that plays well when you pay no attention to how it is constructed or question its purpose. Bring the children.
