Back to the Future (1985 film)

The “Back to the Future” films are more known for the mechanics of the story and how out there it got, but the first keeps things relatively simple—kid gets sent to the past and hangs out with his dad. It is a credit to the busy script that it feels like so much more than that, with pretty much everything in its slow starting half hour getting paid off big in some fashion and a helpful protagonist who keeps the audience engaged with what’s going on. Still a breezy watch today, though not quite as good as some claim.
