Brink

“Brink!” is stranger than I remember, alternating between affecting the language and action of “Rocket Power” and conveying the internal struggle of a youth that’s trying to maintain his sense of normalcy as his family struggles with money. It’s a spirited little movie that comes across as a backdoor pilot (really, a whole series of this would have fit in just fine in the Disney Channel’s then-forthcoming lineup of live-action programming), and while Erik von Detten is fine in the lead role, Christina Vidal (“See No Evil”) playing Ricky Morton is where the real babyface fire lies. Disposable but engaging.
