Celeste (Switch version)

The early indie darling of 2018 is a little rough around the edges. I've encountered a few odd glitches that required quitting out of the game, the post-story stuff is poorly thought out, and some of the characters are written so on-the-nose to what they represent that they may as well have been named "Hope", "Anxiety", and "Toxic Masculinity". Still, marrying a journey to overcome self-doubt with demanding platforming feats ala "Super Meat Boy" makes for an evocative journey, and the wonderful sprites and Platinumesque soundtrack make for wonderful presentation. Oh so slightly overrated, but an early GOTY candidate nonetheless.
