Detective Pikachu (2019 film)

Between documented problems with conquering the uncanny valley as well as the Pokemon franchise barely skirting past the horrific implications of its world (two words: POKEMON TERRORISM), the only way "Pokemon Detective Pikachu" could have worked would have been as a bonkers or perhaps even surreal comedy. Instead, we get frightening depictions of pocket monsters stapled onto a standard kids film plot, which could have still been at least mediocre if it committed to a tone or a creative vision beyond "make that crap look real". A handful of cool action scenes keep this from being just the absolute worst.
