Devolver Bootleg

As an in-joke playing up the metanarrative of Devolver being just as megalomaniacal as any big video game studio but with none of the resources that can justify such callousness, “Bootleg” works. As a comedy game, though, it’s quite lacking, usually requiring some deal of familiarity with its titles and the running joke of “lol it plays bad” getting old fast. The most inspired this gets is the “Shovel Knight” knockoff actually being a knockoff of “Ghouls ’n Ghosts”, admittedly a good gag and the sort of thing that might’ve earned “Bootleg” a passing grade if it weren’t the exception.
