Dog Day Afternoon

There are a lot of humorous bits in “Dog Day Afternoon”; without getting into spoilers, expanding a synopsis to a whole two sentences (why, I never!) gives up how ridiculous the whole affair is. Save the opening shots of the city, however, I spent the whole of this film with my head in my hands, lamenting how these likable morons ended up in this situation and dreading whenever the shoe dropped. This may be a crime drama, but the feeling of sickness it conjured for me is easier to compare to “Angst” and “Possession”. A farce, a tragedy, a masterpiece.
