Doom (2016 video game) (PS4 version; played on PS5 for review)
The original “Doom” is less gory and frantic than you might remember. This reboot, however, plays like how you remember the original, colossal armies of undead, demons, and undead demons cowering before THE DOOMSLAYER, a being that couldn’t give less of a fuck about the hysterical excuse plot and quickly takes to rushing everyone with a double-barreled shotgun that fires uranium-coated shells. This renders “Doom” 2016 an anomaly among modern AAA shooters, which, for better or worse, favor a conservative style of play, and “Doom” glorious carnage shines for the comparison. Some glitches and lacking elements hold it back, though.
