Dune (2021 film) (also marketed as “Dune: Part One”)

I feel like I might be kinder to this film when the second part is released and I’m afforded the opportunity to experience this as one five-hour extravaganza. Judged as a solo film, however, I thought it was good, heavily loaded with explaining alliances, prophecies, and philosophies but washing them down with solid cinematography and a game cast (I’m assuming half a dozen characters refuse to emote because “FEAR IS THE MIND KILLER” is their mission statement for life, please don’t ruin this for me, I don’t hate it). Nowhere near as good as Villeneuve’s past work, but worth experiencing.
