If Anything Happens, I Love You
There’s a moment late in this short where the film dispenses with the pleasantries of its affective, though vague, approach to grief and lays hard into its subject matter. I’ll not spoil what it is, but it’s one impersonal shot save a detail loaded with meaning, a middle finger to folk who have worse than that coming for a long time. Up until then, it feels like a short, animated, abridged cut of “In the Bedroom” (that’s an underhanded compliment), but that shot gives this thing purpose, if not teeth. A strong film that feels like it will get traction.
