Life & Beth (The Sign)

Hulu’s latest dramedy gets off to a solid start. Schumer proved her dramatic chops with “The Humans” and she’s similarly great here as someone on the verge of a nervous breakdown, a flood hiding behind a smile that’s too wide. The humor, too, finds wit in comic awkwardness, something too many “great” comedies forget to hit, though there’s still plenty of room for improvement. I recognize Schumer’s involvement dooms this project for many who soured on here years ago for multitudinous reasons, but I thought this was a good half-hour of television that achieved what it set out to do.
