Marriage Story (revisited)

The power of “Marriage Story”, for all the visibility of its emotional climax, is how ordinary it chooses to be. Charlie and Nicole might be arthouse snobs who aren’t too good to turn down big Hollywood paychecks, but they’re otherwise stripped of glamour and status at every turn, rendering them surprisingly relatable with plenty of room for the leads, incredibly talented but arguably overexposed performers both, to disappear into their characters. It also hurts that (spoilers!) theirs is basically a best-case scenario. I’d ask you to imagine how things could get worse, but I imagine (too) many don’t have to.
