“Masters of Doom: How Two Guys Created an Empire and Transformed Pop Culture” by David Kushner
The story of two computer whiz kids that arguably brought more change and progress to the computer gaming scene than anyone since its inception is enticing enough in the laconic sense to practically write itself. Nonetheless, Kushner’s homework shows; the author notes claim he conducted hundreds of interviews over six years and it is easy to believe him given how complete this account feels. He also throws in plenty of tangible craft to the proceedings so this never has the chance at feeling like a wrote document, with the phrase “the egos at id [Software]” standing out. A great read.
