Nocturnal Animals

For as high as that score is, I can’t recommend this to all audiences. The extreme content here combined with a narrative that asks—no, demands—a good deal of interpretation renders “Animals” the sort of film that rewards active, mature audiences but might alienate those who want a curt story told well. In that sense, this loose revenge thriller is more easily comparable to “The Blackcoat’s Daughter” and “Pi” than “Taken”, though this might be better than the cited. Top-notch performances from its bevy of veteran actors round out one of the most mesmerizing films of the past decade.
