Pac-Land (version found in the Switch port of “Namco Museum Archives Volume Two” played for review)

Opinions on “Pac-Land” as a game vary, but even the kindest perspectives hold the NES port chosen for this collection is substandard. That said, I don’t think I’d be over the moon for the arcade original, not when you press buttons with your right hand to move left and right and press the button on your left to jump (this port has you pressing the directional pad to jump, which is both faithful and evidence that God is dead). This game supposedly had a sizable influence on “Super Mario Bros.”, which expanded on this title’s best ideas. Interesting, but inessential.
