Poor Things (2023 film)

The list of ways that “Poor Things” succeeds is so obvious and appreciable, it would be quicker to list off its failures and let an attentive audience extrapolate from there if it weren’t so difficult to find shortcomings in the first place (“the plot is a hard sell” is the best I’ve got). The acting, the writing, the cinematography, the set design, the soundtrack, all of it is outstanding and working in concert to bring you into this world while artfully and effortlessly conveying a feminist perspective without shamelessly patting itself on the back for it. A beautiful, hysterical fantasy.
