Resident Evil 4 (2023 Remake) (PS5 version)

The original “Resident Evil 4” is a game I’d gladly take to me on a desert island, a ludicrous and hysterical romp through rural Spain that didn’t make a lick of sense. The remake dares to add pathos, logic, themes, and legit scares to the formula without diluting the beloved combat one iota, and while time will tell if this has the legs of the game it is remaking, that there’s even a conversation to be had about which game is better is itself an achievement worth celebrating. Some call this game “soulless”; madness, that claim, or endless willful ignorance.
