Rise of the Triad (1995 video game)

The game released between “Wolfenstein 3D” by Apogee and “Duke Nukem 3D” by 3D Realms, formerly Apogee, was always going to be strange, and whether you think it is weird and dumb or weird, dumb, yet fun might depend on how you process janky elements in games. “Triad” is certainly unique and playing it feels like wandering a clownhouse hall of mirror, which I find hysterical, but I’d be lying if I said I would have liked this less if some of its worst tendencies, such as confusing maps and flat visuals, had been fixed. A curiosity, if nothing else.
