SEPTEMBER 1999
A game that goes in hard on its aesthetic and expects your mind to fill in the blanks. It is mighty effective at this in small doses, though more effective at its time of release four years ago, before half of all horror indie games were exploring similar territory. No doubt some will reject this for not being much of a game, a deceptively solid argument that nonetheless involves not attempting to engage with the media on its own terms, which isn’t fun or worthwhile to me. Still, “1999” is pretty alright in my book, though not best in class.
