Sonic Dreams Collection

I don’t know that “Sonic Dreams Collection” is more unsettling than Arcane Kids’s “Bubsy 3D”, but I feel as though their earlier project had greater purpose. There, outdated iconography was used as commentary on the futility of life. Here, Sonic and pals are repurposed for body horror. It’s great body horror, though, wisely relying primarily on suggestion—you get just enough to know that you’re being given more than you can handle, and that’s effective horror. It helps that there’s an effective gag every thirty seconds or so. Well-made freaky stuff that is better than half of all “Sonic” games.
