The Fault In Our Stars (2014 film)

The biggest impact the film version of “Perks” may have given cinema is a formula for teen book adaptations: cut story to the bone, then add flourishes. “Fault” is proof that formula has legs as Gus and Hazel's circle of friends are cut down in favor of focusing on their relationship. The film suffers a bit from such hyper focus, but the outstanding performances from the leads, Woodley in particular, make up for much of the cut details. This version, unfortunately, can't translate all of Green's wit, but compared to most teen dramas, this is a remarkable piece of work.
