The Leftovers (Season One)

I have not read Tom Perotta’s “The Leftovers”, but given the tepid reception it received on release and that no notable figure has since stood up for it, I feel safe saying this version betters the source material. The show would improve after this, the season that completely adapts the book, but it still gets off to a fantastic start by making its post-apocalypse altogether stunning, touching, unnerving, and hilarious, unafraid to dedicate whole episodes to mind-bending tangents. I would have been satisfied with this being the show’s lone season so long as I never knew what could have been.
