The Zone of Interest (2023 film)
Glazer’s “Under the Skin”, though frustrating to some audiences, gave me pause and haunted me for some time with its arresting visuals contrasting sharply with its haunting soundscape to evoke something approaching a waking nightmare. These qualities were not abandoned for “Interest”; if anything, the dial has been turned up in service of a naturalistic drama where the audience is tasked with deriving meaning from framing and distant echoes of the unspeakable. There’s a lot to unpack here and I feel a bit out of my depth, but I don’t see this one leaving my head for a long time.
