Together Together

Considering the high wire act “Together Squared” attempts—an understated dramedy about surrogacy starring Ed Helms—that the finished product is kind of great is a shocking and wonderful development. It may not be a romance, but the platonic relationship pursued by the leads still follows the chief rule all great film romances share, that you come to love both and want to see them happy, and the emotional beats are never contradicted or undone by the effective comedy or vice versa, making for an engaging, effortless watch. It’s unfortunate the film doesn’t so much “end” as it does “stop”.
