Two of Us (2021 film)

I understand there’s a risk of overselling this one due to refreshing and promising elements beyond what it brings to the table. It’s still rare to see worthwhile films about cute old couples, and that “Two of Us” also fits in ruminations about codependency and isolation makes it doubly astounding that this is Filippo Meneghetti’s first full-length feature. “Us” doesn’t reinvent the wheels in terms of storytelling and I could have stood for a few narrative strands to be cut down or excised completely, but that this wasn’t up for Best International Feature is mind-boggling to me. A beautiful film.
