Wolfenstein 3D: Episode One: Escape From Castle Wolfenstein

A brief, shallow, though satisfying set of levels that occasionally show off flashes of what would eventually be considered hallmarks of good level design. I’m old enough to remember this being a graphical showcase for its time, and mowing down Nazis in tight corridors makes the endorphins happy in short spurts, but levels can be so large, unintuitive, and lacking in individual identity that you’ll find yourself passing the one door to the one area you haven’t explored at least four times. Maybe only play it for fifteen-minute stretches, if only so you don’t wear yourself out on the aesthetic.
