999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors (DS version)

Practically requiring an FAQ to get to the end of a game is usually an inexcusable offense, and there’s no getting around that the game isn’t formatted well for frequent replays despite replays being basically required. All forgivable offenses, though, considering what is being attempted here. This is a high wire act that asks you to consider the validity of a dozen theories from the scientific to the supernatural, and without getting into spoilers, “999” is built on the most interesting of its presented ideas. The game ascends to greatness when it justifies its format very late in the game.
