Amplitude (2016 video game, played on PS5 for review)

I love many aspects of “Amplitude”—its daunting aesthetic, its harsh but accessible soundtrack, its odd excuse plot. All of that makes it easy to recommend “Thumper”, which has similar qualities while being much better overall. “Thumper” at least doesn’t make you look to the edges of the screen for the next zone you need to hit, or offer up a licensed track from Insomniac as a bonus (offer up a Shaggs track while you’re throwing refuse in my face, why don’t you). That isn’t to say “Amplitude” isn’t plenty good, but there are better rhythm games on the market.
