It’s too much to ask that this live up to the original, which one writer compared to the first time he ever heard “Sgt. Peppers”, but for the all the lawsuits this has already inspired, I thought it was a riot. Cohen, as usual, knows how to present his character’s ignorance in hysterical fashion, but Maria Bakalova deserves just as much credit for making the most of her role as Borat’s uneducted-but-spirited daughter Tutar, getting many of the best jokes. You may think you’ve already had the best bit spoiled by the real world, but that third act is bonkers.
