Derry Girls (Season One)

This advertises itself as a coming-of-age comedy that chronicles life for a gaggle of Irish girls (and one meek English boy) in the early 90s, but while that’s not an inaccurate description of “Derry Girls”, it is easier to compare to “Fawlty Towers”, with plotlines built on an escalating series of lies and leaps of logic that almost always climax in ludicrous fashion. I specify “Towers” because that’s the height of situational comedy as far as I’m concerned and “Derry” comes close to topping that classic on several occasions. These six episodes just flew by for me. Next season, please.
