Doki Doki Literature Club

A triumph of the soul. DDLC may put some off with its aesthetic that telegraphs that it is a cutesy anime game with not a challenging element in it, but while that's true, I think its frank discussion of depression goes a long way in fleshing out its characters. It has a slow start, but the story really picks up when you get up on stage at the festival, eventually challenging 999 and "Kana: Little Sister" for the title Best Visual Novel. It's a little sad, it's a little heartwarming, and all throughout, DDLC will have you screaming with delight.
