Donnie Brasco

Time hasn’t been kind to “Donnie Brasco”. There’s better, more celebrated media touching on this subject matter that predates it (“Wiseguy”) and followed it (“The Departed”), and the stink of the 90s comes through with the orchestra that never fails to let you know what a scene is supposed to make you feel. That said, the tragic bromance at its center still feels involving and novel today, in no small part thanks to Al Pacino turning in a lovely and nuanced performance as a mobster that wants out but just can’t leave. A well-made film whose two hours fly by.
