Ecco the Dolphin
“Ecco” is an artistic video game, loquaciously conveying the splendor of being a one-hundred seventy-pound squealing pile of blubber that occasionally eats its offspring. “Ecco” bears superficial similarity to many art games of the present day, with its understated narrative, gorgeous visuals, quirky audio design, and controls that don’t so much feel an afterthought as incidental, as though they accidentally give you agency in the proceedings. “Ecco” invites you into its mystery of what happened to his pod and trusts you to trust that the explanation of ALIENS is sufficient payoff. “Ecco” is exceptionally terrible and it always has been.
