El Hijo del Vikingo vs. Arez for the RIOT Championship, from RIOT Lucha Libre Covidiotas

I was introduced to this as a potential “match of the year” candidate, and I’m sure someone out there will like it, but that person is not me. I can’t deny these two are excellent in terms of physicality, but in terms of telling a story or delivering an awe-inspiring spectacle, this was quite lacking. Sing it with me now: simple rest holds into simple throws into big dive spots down the stretch, a great match as determined by algorithm. There’s some cool stuff down the stretch (including one mind-melting hurricanrana from Vikingo), but there’s plenty better lucha out there.
