Flee

One of only two films up for this year’s Best Animated Feature that truly deserves to win, “Flee” uses its animation to draw the audience in rather than distance them from the subject matter. It allows for specificity with its anecdotes and intimacy with its subject where live action would likely have failed, and the result is an uncomfortable but engrossing experience. It probably won’t win BAF because the Academy don’t respect animation as acceptable viewing for adults and will judge this through the lens of how good it is at making their kids fall asleep, but I loved it.
