Gaplus Demake (version found in the Switch port of “Namco Museum Archives Volume Two” played for review)

I’ll grant this is the next logical step in the Galaga franchise: increase the pace and firepower, which was what the second game was to Galaxian. The problem is Galaga might have hit the sweet spot and this feels both too fast, in that the progression of chaos isn’t really conveyed here, and too slow, in that if I wanted to play a fast-paced vertical shooter, there’s too many better alternatives out there. There’s some satisfaction with getting a bunch of weapons together and mowing through a couple of rows of enemies, but it’s a brief thrill. Demake’s nice, though.
