Ghostbusters (1984 film)

What’s great about “Ghostbusters” is that its eventual plot could have easily been played straight up action-adventure or even horror, but all involved go with comedy because, presumably, we have enough of the latter to go around. It doesn’t show much reverence for itself, and that’s refreshing considering how easily it could have gone up its own ass. The comedy mostly lands well, the special effects hold up, and all of the little side plots have purpose. I disagree with those who claim this is the best film of its decade, but it remains a highly quotable, strong, weird comedy.
