Hellraiser (1987 film)

It’s okay. “Hellraiser” has a good soundtrack, some impressive effects, inventive creatures, and succeeds at conjuring an atmosphere of madness. Its much-ballyhooed perversions, however, didn’t warp my mind or destroy my soul—frankly, being obscener would have done wonders for its personality. The plot structure is a mess (it takes half the film for the concept of the Cenobites to be introduced), plot holes are introduced in adaptation, and it’s difficult to care about, understand, be horrified by, or otherwise feel anything towards characters who are posited through the first half as the protagonists. Not bad, but not good, either.
