Her (2013 film)
The last hyped-up romantic dramedy with SF elements I saw prior to this was “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, which pretended to be heartfelt, meaningful, and respectful but was just a whole lot of nothing. “Her”, however, is the real deal, focusing on two brilliant but broken beings that are drawn together in a believable vision of the near-future and beautifully builds up and deconstructs their relationship several times over the course of two hours that feel like seventy-five minutes. It’s funny, it’s heartbreaking, and it isn’t afraid of stewing in an uncomfortable moment of emotional honesty. A masterpiece.
