I Saw the Devil

This could be a four-word review: “Like “Oldboy”, but worse!” “Devil” has enough going for it to earn a light recommendation, with its considerable and inventive violence ensuring the film never threatens to become monotonous as well as game performances all around, but it banks hard on the whole “becoming a monster to fight a monster” thing, which “Oldboy” not only did several years earlier, it did with a greater sense of purpose and a stronger sense of logic. I was fed up with the protagonist forty-five minutes in, and, well, it runs one-hundred-and-fifty minutes. Taxi scene was boss, though.
