The Signal (2007 film)

“The Signal” has “twelfth page of results when scrolling through Tubi” written all over it, and that it begins with its best act and ends with its worst means some of that stank is earned. That said, I was pleasantly surprised through much of “The Signal”, with its first act gamely utilizing its antagonistic force as a metaphor for anxiety and the second act being a nonsensical but entertaining sequence of dark humor. The conveyed grime and lack of color, a tired staple of low-budget joints, feel deliberate and outright earned here. Not a masterpiece but better than you’d expect.
