Kenta Kobashi vs. Steve Williams to determine the number one contender for the AJPW Triple Crown, from All Japan Summer Action Series II 1993 Night Ten
Shockingly bad. It started off hot but then devolved into random restholds and illogical strikes (Williams, a three-hundred pound former defensive tackle, cartwheels into Kobashi outside the ring at one point). There’s no narrative to follow through most of this; it feels like a round out of a wrestling video game. Even the closing stretch has noticeable botches, one of which annihilates the story they were trying to tell near the end. I’ve seen these guys have incredible matches together, but I guess this goes to show even the best have an off night. The crowd loved it, at least.
