It’s not hard to see why this was acclaimed in its time, but there’s a lot of room for improvement. This is the sort of match where taking ten minutes off would have helped connect the story beats together and cut out the less-interesting elements that had the fans sitting on their hands; you can’t expect fans to keep their enthusiasm up when big dives happen two minutes in and they follow that up with rest holds. Some neat sequences and a hot finish elevate this one well onto the green, but this was somewhat underwhelming considering the talent involved.
