Metal Gear (MSX version, played on PS5 for review)
There are a lot of admirable qualities to the first Metal Gear game, especially when compared to the shoddy NES port, but you’d never call this as a decades-spanning, beloved franchise from this installment. The music is pretty good and sneaking around works well enough, but there’s also as much padding as there are bad boss fights. I lost track of how many times I had to search a floor to find a contact who needed to tell me who I actually needed to find, and Metal Gear wouldn’t have a good boss fight until “Solid”. Perhaps being generous here.
