My Girl

A slightly (and I do mean "slightly") above average coming of age dramedy that drops a megaton bomb that both raises its value exponentially as well as kind of kills the film. "My Girl" still has a half hour left after THAT happens, a poor pacing decision that means the film basically has thirty minutes of dead air. That drama bomb, though, still smarts today, and it would not have been half as effective without the surprising chemistry between Macaulay Culkin and Anna Chlumsky. "Bridge to Terabithia" arguably pulled this off more effectively, but I still prefer this earnest treatment.
