My Little Sister
For all the tempting comparisons to make between this, an international drama about cancer complicating the relationship and lives of fraternal twins, and films that have covered similar ground better such as “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly” and “The Father”, I keep coming back to describing “Little Sister” as “pretty good”. Exposition is nigh-flawlessly conveyed, there are several wonderful instances of filmmaking including a breathtaking hang-gliding sequence, and Nina Hoss does a great job anchoring the film as the title character. I’d be more glowing if it aimed for greater emotional highs down the stretch over its sustained melancholy.
