Nidhogg

The crucial elements of a great fighting game lie not with its special moves but how it rewards players for controlling set spaces, and “Nidhogg” pays off smart play with every session. Parries are present, as are divekicks, sweeps, and projectile attacks, but what will win the day every (I MEAN EVERY) time is knowing the practical application of all of these moves; I’ve gone on hour-long win streaks just by playing well. The barrier for entry is among the lowest of any game ever made. One of the simplest fighting games I’ve ever played, and one of the best.
