Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Rebellion

"Rebellion" has one strike against it out the gate in that you have to watch either the twelve-episode TV series or the two full-length films in order to understand the significance of everything "Rebellion" presents. Even with that tax paid, it has to slow to a crawl near the end of its second act to explain what the blazes is going on. That being said, this is a thoughtful story told very well with a late twist that was genuinely shocking and made total sense (yes it did, get on our level). Probably would have been better as a season.
