Puss in Boots: The Last Wish
I don’t know what more I could ask from an animated action-comedy. The art is gorgeous, it isn’t lacking in emotional journeys, and the action set pieces are phenomenally well-choreographed and realized; I can’t say this was a better action film than “Into the Spider-Verse”, but it’s close. I’ve grown tired of the Shrekverse’s shallow send-up of folk tales, but the subversions here feel born of respect, jokes and drama seemingly constructed by overqualified writers with mythology degrees, easily making this the best Shrek-related film to date by some distance. Mature (like, properly mature) and infectiously energetic in equal measure.
